Marine spatial planning themes

A system of marine planning and management has many components. The mind map below seeks to identify how these components relate to each other. Each highlighted element of the mind map links to further information on the relevant theme which can also be accessed from the side bar. The themes describe what seem to us to be key aspects of marine planning and management.

While the themes cover some of the key steps in the process of marine spatial planning, they also address some of the wider activities that will contribute to the success of planning initiatives, for example, the role of science, the importance of stakeholder engagement and some of the tools that might support options appraisal and plan-making decisions.
