Using the Toolbar

The toolbar allows you to interact with the map by clicking on the map with a tool. For example, if you click in the toolbar on the Zoom In tool, then click on the map, the map will zoom in around where you click.

You can also interact with the map using the keyboard. Also see Using the mouse for tips on using the mouse to interact with the map.

To use a tool

Note: Some tools do an action immediately. These include the Full-extent tool and Previous/Next extent tools.

Tools

Tools in your website depend on the purpose and use of the application. The following tools are available:

Name Icon Description
Full extent Full map extent Full extent: Immediately zooms the map out to the area of all features and layers. The active tool does not change.
Previous extent Previous extent tool Previous extent : Immediately zooms the map in or out to the previous view extent. The previous view history is lost on a hard page refresh. Nothing will happen if you click the button and have not changed the view extent since loading the page.
Next extent Previous extent tool Next extent : Immediately zooms the map in or out to the next view extent. The view history is lost on a hard page refresh. Nothing will happen if you click the button and have not changed the view extent since loading the page.
Zoom to selected Zoom in tool Click : If you have a current results selection then the map will zoom to and center on the selected data.
Zoom in Zoom in tool Click or click and drag a rectangle: Either just click or click and hold the left mouse button down on the map at one corner of the rectangle to zoom in to. Drag the mouse to the other corner of the rectangle, and release the mouse button. The map will zoom in to the area of the rectangle.
Zoom out Zoom out tool Click: Click the map and current map area will zoom out.
Pan (recenter) Pan tool Click and drag the map: Click and hold the left mouse button on the map, and drag the map. The map will be recentered, with the location dragged at the location you dropped it.
Identify features Select data by shape tool Identify features by clicking map: Click map and return data for all search enabled layers at that point.
Select data Select data by shape tool Select features by shape : Choose layer from selection list in top right of map (if required) then click and hold the left mouse button down on the map at one corner of the rectangle. Drag the mouse to the other corner of the rectangle, and release the mouse button. The map will select data, zoom map in to selection and display a results table. Export functionality can be found at the bottom of the results table.
De-select data Select data by shape tool Click to de-select features : This will clear the current selection and remove the results window.
Re-select data Select data by shape tool Click to re-select features: This will re-load the last known data selection process and assocaited results window.
Query data Select data by shape tool Query features by attribute : From the query window select query option from drop-down list, enter values in the fields and click button to find data. The map will select data, zoom map in to selection and display a results table. Export functionality can be found at the bottom of the results table.
Measure Measure tool Measure distance or area: Click map and click again to define a segment. The measurement results are updated at the bottom of the map. Keep clicking until distance or area is defined. Delete previous points using the 'Del' key and double click to finish measurement.
Coordinates Print Click to view point coordinates: Click map to return coordinates in common projection formats.
Print Print Produce HTML or PDF print outputs: Print window with options to print HTML or PDF map of current map extent with overview, legend and scalebar. Advanced PDF options include title, paper size and orientation options.
Refresh Open help window Clears selected data : Refreshesand clears selected data from the current map.
Help Open help window Open help window: Either opens a new window or switches focus to an existing help window and loads a help section.
